Learning Opportunities
for Animal lovers
Greetings everyone and Happy Spring!
I am writing to share my Early Summer class schedule with you.
My goal in offering these classes is to assist those seeking to strengthen their connection to Source, to their own spirit, and to all other beings.
Reiki Classes
Reiki is a system of natural healing that strengthens one's connection to Source energy, love, and intelligence. This connection promotes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual balance.
Reiki II
Saturday, May 8
Crystal Lake, IL
This class is for students who have taken Reiki I with me at least three months prior to May 8 (either the Animal Lovers class or the Caregivers class).
In the Level II class, you will deepen your connection to Source energy, love, and intelligence, and you will learn to share Reiki from a distance--any distance.
Acceptance into the class requires a bit of homework, so if you are ready to continue your Reiki training, please contact me right away.
Cost: $250
Reiki I for Animal Lovers
Saturday, June 12
On 22 beautiful acres of woods and prairie in Harvard, IL
In the Level I class, you will learn the history and ethics of Reiki, and you will learn to use Reiki for yourself and other living beings. Students will work with humans, dogs, and horses.
Cost: $175
Animal Communication
Introduction to Animal Communication
Saturday, July 10
On 22 beautiful acres of woods and prairie in Harvard, IL
In this introductory class, we will talk about what telepathic communication is and the many forms it can take, and you will engage in a variety of exercises to get back in touch with the natural telepathic ability we all are born with. Everyone will bring photos of their animals to exchange and work with; you will also work with the wildlife on the property and with my teacher dog, Elika, seen here after burying a tasty bit of horse hoof.

Cost: $125 (reduced to $110 if paid in full by July 3)
Advanced class coming soon.
Classes can also be scheduled elsewhere in the Midwest. Call or email for information on hosting a class.
As a gift for referring a student to one of my classes, you will receive a complementary Reiki session (from a distance) for yourself.
Thank you for spreading the word.
January 2010
The days here in snowy northern Illinois are getting longer, a most welcome occurrence. While at times, I just can't help anticipating the soon-to-come freshness of spring, I try to enjoy each day as it comes; winter here can be lovely. I hope that you are all enjoying whatever bounty Mother Nature is offering you today.

Dr. Oz Says, "Try Reiki."
On January 6, Dr. Mehmet Oz (you may know him from "Oprah") devoted a portion of The Dr. Oz Show to alternative approaches to wellness. He freely stated that Reiki is his "favorite." He further stated that he believes energy approaches to healing, will "change the face of medicine" in the near future. At the end of the show, he urged his viewers to "Try Reiki."

"They Understand," the January Animal Connections column (previously published in the January issue of From the Horse's Mouth) is now on the Website:
Over the years, I've spoken with many people who want to know the "secret" of communicating with their animals. They don't seem to understand that they are already doing it: Their animals are hearing and understanding them; they are hearing and understanding their animals.

Winged Horse Healing is now on Facebook
The page is a place for you to ask questions about the services offered by Winged Horse Healing: Reiki healing for all beings (including humans), Animal Communication, and Neuromuscular Retraining (for animals). I look forward to meeting you there.

"Visitors," the October Animal Connections column (previously published in the October issue of From the Horse's Mouth) is now on the Website:
Last month, I wrote about the healing I have been blessed to experience after an awful accident I had with one of my horses . . .
This month, I want to share with you three of the visits from my four-legged healing partners.

A Beautiful Book
I recently discovered a beautiful book of blessings by the late John O'Donohue: To Bless the Space Between Us. The book includes blessings for Beginnings, Desires, Thresholds, Homecomings, States of the Heart, Callings, and Beyond Endings.
Here is the blessing "To Come Home to Yourself."
May all that is unforgiven in you
Be released.
May your fears yield
Their deepest tranquillities.
May all that is unlived in you
Blossom into a future
Graced with love.
The book is filled with love and hope and grace. I have found peace in its pages.
Upcoming Reiki Circle
I will be co-hosting a Reiki Circle with Reiki teacher-in-training Chris Gilmer on Saturday, December 12, in Crystal Lake, IL.
All Reiki healers (Level I and above) are invited.
We will meet from noon until 4 or 5 pm to share a meal, share Reiki experiences, share Reiki healing.
Please save the date.
Until next time.
September 2009
Greetings everyone!
I hope that you are enjoying the many joys that summer brings. I am sorry to have been out of touch for the past two months, but early in June, I was involved in a serious accident with one of my gorgeous horses (a freak accident, not at all his fault). The result was a fractured spleen, which was removed; five broken ribs, three of which later displaced; and swollen optic nerves, which affected my sight.
It has been quite a journey back to health. With Reiki, acupuncture, and prayers and healing thoughts from many people, both friends and strangers, I am making my way to a full recovery.
In the months to come, I will have many stories to share about what I learned about the healing process (much of it from my animal companions).

"Animal Healers, Part I and Part II," the May and June Animal Connections columns (previously published in the May and June issues of From the Horse's Mouth) are now on the Website:
We've all experienced the healing power of animals, the velvet equine nose that soothes the heart, that banishes our pain and disappointment; the icy, wet canine nose that encourages us to laugh, to shake off our self-indulgent misery; the licks and slobbers and whinnies and sighs that remind us that we are not alone, that all is well. Our animal companions possess amazing healing power, and they offer this gift freely.
"No Worries," the July Animal Connections column (previously published in the July issue of From the Horse's Mouth) is also now on the Website:
Just for today, I will let go of worry.
--Reiki Principle
When you're feeling down--financial worries, job anxieties, an argument with someone dear--do you ever wish you could trade places with your dog? I know I've said to my Eskimo more than once, "Boy, Elika, you've got one good life. You don't have to worry about anything."
And it's true. She gets fed twice a day; goes on long walks twice a day; and gets to play in and around the barn for hours three seasons out of the year, helping me to spread hay and clean manure, chasing mice and rabbits and chipmunks, keeping a watchful eye while I groom, eating delicious morsels of frog when the trimmer comes.

Good Reading
Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog by Ted Kerasote.
This was the first book I read after being discharged from the hospital. My mother saw it at the library and thought I might be interested.
To be honest, initially I wasn't. I thought, "Oh, great, another man and his dog book." But it quickly grew on me. Kerasote is a travel writer, so his descriptions of his Wyoming home are worth it on their own. But, in keeping with the title, he also shares many observations about how dogs think, reason, problem solve, many of his observations contradicting the so-called "experts."
The book is warm, loving, entertaining, and thoughtful. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Upcoming Classes
I am sorry to say that I have had to suspend my teaching schedule until I have fully recovered. I hope to have a fall schedule put together soon.
A Thank-You Gift for Your Referral
Your referrals are the lifeblood of my practice. They deserve a heartfelt thank you.
For a referral to one of my classes, I will thank you with a Reiki session for you or one of your animals.
For a referral to any of my services (Reiki, Animal Communication, Neuromuscular Retraining), I will thank you with $10 off a session for yourself or one of your animals.

Greetings everyone!
Mary Schmidt, a columnist for the Chicago Tribune, recently wrote an extremely uplifting column about staying positive in difficult times. Each day, she asks herself, and then answers, a simple question:
"What are you happy about?"
The exercise has brought a smile to my face, and I hope it will bring one to yours as well.

"Tough Times," the April Animal Connections column (previously published in the April issue of From the Horse's Mouth) is now on the Website:
Today I found myself thinking about a tenacious little coyote that wandered into my line of sight a few years ago. I was horse sitting a friend's herd and was relaxing in the backyard one late summer afternoon with the dogs and a cool drink, facing the back pasture, watching the horses lazily graze.

Client and friend Jeff Maziarek has a wonderful, free service he calls Pondercentral (as in, "ponder this"). Five days a week, he sends selections from spiritual and personal growth books directly to your inbox. Here is the selection for Wednesday, May 13, 2009:
Nothing has to be the way you thought. Nothing has to be the way it has always been. All the rules in life are boundaries. Boundaries are departure points. They are not the limit of you. Depart, depart from your frame of reference. Peek under. Peek above. See from other angles. See more. See another way. See the relative world one hundred new ways. And Me, only one.
Take a moment to look rather than remember what you thought yesterday. See what is before you with new eyes. See with new thoughts. Turn your head. Stand upside down and see what you see. What if your life is a holy thing? What if your presence on earth is sacred?

Greetings everyone, and Happy Spring!
It's been a long, hard winter here in the Midwest, but the Spring Tease has begun: warm days filled with sweet sunshine followed by bitter, blustery days awash with icy rain. Compared to other parts of the country that are experiencing severe weather, though, ours is a walk in the park. I hope that you are all well and safe.

Website Updates
In an ongoing effort to make the practice of Reiki as clear as possible, I have updated the pages on my Website that explain Reiki healing:
Reiki (pronounced ray-key), is a healing system in which the practitioner channels universal life force energy to the individual in need of healing. Reiki is pure, unconditional love. It fills one with a sense of peace, acceptance, and well-being. In this balanced state, healing can occur: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

"One Earth," the March Animal Connections column (previously published in From the Horse's Mouth) is now on the Website.
I spent the whole of last week lying in a hospital bed, fighting the unbelievable pain of ulcerative colitis, a disorder I did not know I had and have no intention of keeping, thank you very much. A bit of a jolt to a healer, to be sure. But a challenge I have promised myself to rise to.
If you would like to read more, click here.
A Terrific Reiki Book
Those of you who have taken Reiki classes with me already know about this book, but for those of you who don't, and who would like to learn more about Reiki, I recommend you begin with Tapestry of Healing: Where Reiki and Medicine Intertwine by Jeri Mills, MD.
Mills began her healing career as a veterinarian, later becoming an OBGYN. In this book she explains Reiki by telling stories, sharing her experiences of using Reiki with both animals and humans. The book is clear, engaging, honest, uplifting. It is out of print but is readily available through Amazon.com or Mills' Website (TapestryofHealing.com) To go directly to her Website, click here.
